“You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America’s Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn’t want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named ‘Bush,’ ‘Dick,’ and ‘Colon.’ Need I say more?” This is the type of humor you come to expect from one comedian – Chris Rock. Described as one of the smartest and funniest comedians working today, Rock’s humor is unabashed and unafraid to tackle any topic, no matter how taboo. Rock delves into such diverse themes race, gender relations, politics and cultural matters with equal parts ferocity and ease that leaves the audience laughing at what they are often afraid to mention themselves. Rock’s fame has grown since his early days on Saturday Night Live. The Grammy and Emmy award winner has gone on to conquer Hollywood in movies ranging from “New Jack City” to “Dogma.” However, unlike many comedians who take the plunge into Hollywood, Rock has not abandoned his roots, continually touring and appearing in theatres and club across from America, like his “Bigger and Blacker Tour” in 2000.The “Black Ambition Tour,” Rock’s latest venture, has him crisscrossing the country bringing his unique comedic genius to every venue. Lucky for Rochester, Rock will make an appearance March 18th at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre on Main Street. Tickets are few and far between but still available through TicketMaster, ranging anywhere between $35 and $51. Those interested should jump at the chance to see a future comedic legend masterfully doing what he does best.Allard can be reached at dallard@campustimes.org.
