If you’ve ever found yourself bored with the regular weekend nightlife at UR, you’re in luck this year.

That’s because the Student Activities Office has launched a revolutionary new campaign to provide fun and cheap things to do on Friday and Saturday nights.

“The idea is to have something on campus between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. that is either free or less than $5,” Assistant Director of Student Activities Programs and Fashionably Late Coordinator Melissia Schmidt said.

It all started last year, when a committee composed of students and staff was formed to explore the need for late night programming at UR.

Fashionably Late was the result, and now it has begun in full force, with funding from the SAO and Deans’ Office.

Every weekend, Fashionably Late will provide both an on-campus and off-campus event at a price any student can afford.

What’s more, Fashionably Late provides a way for student groups to get their events co-sponsored with funding and added publiciy.

“We wanted to provide a way for groups to get added publicity for their events as well,” Schmidt said.

Many of the events chosen to be on the Fashionably Late posters distributed accross campus are student group sponsored.

Just last weekend, the SAO co-sponsored a “drive-in movie” with the Fraternity Presidents’ Council and a High Falls night off campus with the Class Councils.

Tomorrow’s event is Magic in the May Room at 10 p.m., with master magician Peter Cumbo, and it, too, is sponsored by a student organization – Campus Activities Board. Tickets to this show are only $3 and include refreshments and snacks served at the show.

Saturday night, transportation will be provided to a concert at Milestones, a local venue featuring the Sim Redmond Band, a popular local artist.

Praised for their unique reggae/rock feel, the band is sure to put on a great show – and an affordable one as well. After all, tickets are only $5 including transportation and cover at this great 18+ bar.

Be on the lookout for Fashionable Late posters showcasing events throughout the semester. In the coming weeks, there will be concerts at the Common Ground, and a Game Night at the Hive.

Of course, everyone is waiting in anticipation for next weekend’s Guster concert in the Palestra – check here in next week’s issue for a full preview of the show.

Tickets for all Fashionably Late events are available at The Common Market.
