The men and women?s crew team traveled to Philadelphia last weekend and split results in the Murphy Cup.

The women?s squad had an impressive second-place finish in the qualifying heats to make it into the finals. In the finals, the women came out to a fast start and kept up the momentum.

However, the boat was defeated in a close race by Villanova, last year?s Murphy Cup winner.

The women finished second and improved their race time in the finals by six seconds from the qualifying race.

?Our boat finally came together this weekend and demonstrated what we are capable of,? senior captain Sarah Lounsberry said. ?I?m really excited about how we rowed, as we?ll see a lot of these teams again at the end of the season.?

The men?s team was looking to extend another win after defeating Ithaca two weeks ago and to capture its fourth win in four years against the squad.

The men finished third in their qualifying heat. Their time was strong enough to qualify them for the finals. In the finals, the men rowed hard, but fell short of defeating the other teams, finishing in fifth place.

?We are very happy with how we raced,? said junior Galen Mittermann.

?We showed that we have some good speed and we are very pumped about the upcoming New York State Championship in two weeks and Dad Vail Regatta the week after,? he said.

In the women?s novice eight-rower race, the boat came in third in its qualifying race, making it into the final round competition. Making into finals is evidence that the women?s novice eight became a more competitive boat despite its lack of rowers. Two weeks ago, it finished second at their race in Ithaca, coming into Murphy Cup with a winning rhythm.

This weekend, all three boats will be traveling to Williams College in Massachusetts.
