Communication is the key to college life. The efforts by the Computer Interest Floor, Information Technology Services and Wilson Commons staff to expand the ability of students to communicate by installing Internet terminals in Wilson Commons should be applauded.

The partnership responsible for installing the computers exhibits what can be done when different organizations on campus communicate with each other. CIF took the initiative to approach non-student groups and form a coalition to reach their goals. Other student organizations should see this as an example of how different areas of the campus can come together to improve student life.

Internet access in Wilson Commons will help to revitalize student life and bring more traffic to the area. This is an important step in re-centralizing life on campus and forming a cohesive undergraduate community.

Although this is an important step, more efforts should be made to continue expanding Internet service in Wilson Commons. As Internet-based communication becomes more important in the life of students, computers are going to become more essential in a student life center.

It will also be essential that good communication continues between the groups responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the computers. The success of the endeavor rests on the continuous vigilance of the groups in ensuring that they are providing a reliable service to students.
