The Yellowjackets came out in full force on Thursday, sweeping Hamilton College and showing their true strength. The ‘Jackets are now 12-10 for the season.

I feel like we finally played to our potential,” sophomore Andrea LaRocque said. “We should have been winning games like that all season and it’s about time that we came alive and showed people that.”

The first game started out in Hamilton’s favor. The Continentals came out strong in the first inning, with three hits producing one run and giving them the early lead.

In the second inning, junior Jena Robertson struck out two and Hamilton failed to get on base. The ‘Jackets also failed to reach base in their turn at bat.

The ‘Jackets held Hamilton through the third and took the lead at 2-1. Sophomore Jessica Sorrentino singled to right, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Robertson walked and stole second. Sophomore Alicia Citro hit a sacrifice fly to score Sorrentino and advance Robertson to third. Freshman Megan Winn brought in the final run of the inning with a single to left field.

In the fourth, junior Samantha Carr walked and senior Laura Rubinchuk singled up the middle. Senior Jen Moshier flew out to center, advancing Carr and Rubinchuk. Sorrentino singled to second base, scoring Carr and giving the ‘Jackets a 3-1 lead, which they held for the remainder of the game.

Robertson held Hamilton to six hits for the game and struck out eight to pick up the win.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Yellowjackets dominated Hamilton. In the ‘Jackets’ first attempt, Robertson reached first on an error and was moved over by a sacrifice bunt by Citro. Winn doubled to center, scoring Robertson.

In the second inning, junior Nicole DiBello doubled down the left field line and reached third on a bunt by Sorrentino. Robertson singled to right field and advanced to second on an error, scoring both Sorrentino and DiBello. Citro singled up the middle, advancing Robertson to third.

Robertson scored off of a throwing error. Winn doubled to right-center, scoring Citro. Ameno walked and sophomore Rachel Skellie singled to third, loading the bases.

LaRocque doubled to center, scoring Winn, Ameno and Skellie. The Yellowjackets scored a total of seven runs in the second inning, giving them an 8-0 lead.

In the third, junior Kelly White pinch hit for Sorrentino and doubled to left field. Robertson tripled to right scoring White. Citro grounded out to second base and Robertson scored off the play.

Winn singled to right-center and Ameno reached base on a fielder’s choice. Winn was thrown out at second on the play. Skellie singled to left and Ameno advanced to second. LaRocque singled to center and scored Ameno.

The ‘Jackets finished the inning with three runs, giving them an 11-0 lead going into the fourth. Both teams were held scoreless through the fourth and fifth and the ‘Jackets won 11-0. Ameno only gave up four hits and one walk in five innings against Hamilton.

“I think the second game against Hamilton really showed what we can do when we relax and have a little fun,” Carr said. “We have a talented lineup [which] is capable of scoring strings of runs.”
