UR Security officers were summoned to Hutchison Hall at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday after a report of a suspicious white powdery substance on the first and second floors of the building, according to UR Security Investigator Dan Lafferty.
The building was subsequently evacuated upon the arrival of the Rochester Fire Department and the Hazardous Materials Unit. Hazmat teams then took to the building to determine the nature of the powder.
As the building was investigated, two persons identifying themselves as UR alumni told UR Security that they had made the substance out of flour and tennis balls. They indicated that they had placed the powder on floors and other surfaces to mark the route for a Rochester Running Club event.
The persons asserted that they were members of this club.
Both were advised against such behavior and were released. UR Security then allowed faculty, staff and students back into the building, according to Lafferty.Fraternity member suffers head injury Medical Emergency Response Team members and UR Security were summoned to the Psi Upsilon fraternity house at 2:45 a.m. on Friday after a student suffered a severe head laceration, according to Lafferty.
The student was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by security vehicle for evaluation and treatment.
Further investigation by UR Security determined that the student had been involved in two altercations with other YU members over the course of the night.
The injured student was unable to determine what had caused his injuries or who had inflicted them on him.
Alcohol was found to be a contributing factor to the events.
The matter has since been referred to the Office of the Dean of Students, according to Lafferty.Student harassed on telephoneA female Susan B. Anthony Halls resident received a call from an unidentified suspect last Wednesday around 2:30 p.m., according to Lafferty.
The caller told the student that she had “qualified for a rewards card, but additional information was needed.” The student then disclosed information about herself and her family.
After hanging up, the student decided that she probably should not have disclosed this information. She then called UR Security, according to Lafferty.Unattended electronics stolenA student left his iPod and Palm organizer unattended in the Art and Music Library last Wednesday around 4:40 p.m. The items were stolen after the student left the library temporarily to get a drink.
