Over the weekends, students are often supplied with multiple campus-organized activities to participate in and are made well aware of them through the Weekend Highlights e-mails sent out every Thursday evening. However, once the weekend is over and the Monday drab hits, it’s often tough to find something to do around campus that’s non-academic.

The Campus Activities Board is doing a great job changing this. This year, they are continuing the tradition of filling every Monday in April with “Mondays Suck” programs. Every Monday, students can come to Wilson Commons, usually Hirst Lounge, and do a fun, mindless activity that will hopefully put smiles on their faces. There have already been opportunities to play 3-D golf and make spin-art frisbees, and a free ice cream social will be the activity of choice this Monday.

While there are often interesting events provided on the weekdays in the form of top-name speakers and informative seminars, it is not often that students are able to take a break from the daily grind and do something just fun and far from intellectual. Programs like these are much appreciated and would be great to see throughout the year. The speakers and seminars are a necessary and wonderful contribution to our academic environment. However, every once and a while, something a little more fun and carefree is an added bonus.

It’s unfortunate that so few students are aware of these programs going on. They are a phenomenal addendum to the multiple activities occurring on a daily basis, and more publicity should be done so that people are better aware of their opportunities.

CAB should be commended for giving the campus something enjoyable to do, and we look forward to more events of a similar nature.
