The UR Yellowjackets played the SUNY Geneseo Knights at Fauver Stadium Oct. 8 in a duel of a field hockey game. With lots of intense moments and suspense in the first half, the outcome was not what was expected, as the Yellowjackets lost 0–1. The Yellowjackets’ stellar defense appeared to be winning them the game before the Knights’ single shot got through.

The Knights played a tough game against the Yellowjackets, which resulted in their win with 0–1 in the third quarter. The Knights’ defensive line was strong, keeping the ball on the Jackets’ side the majority of the game. With the shot total at 0–18, there was some home team offensive work that needed to be done. The Jackets’ defense worked hard to keep the ball at center-field and out of the shooting range of a goal.

This was a highly-anticipated game for both the Knights and Yellowjackets, as both teams are nationally ranked in NCAA Division III Field Hockey. However, the outcome of this game will not change the standings going into the League final rounds, since UR is in the Liberty League and Geneseo is in the Empire 8 Conference.

The rest of the season’s games for the Yellowjackets will be part of the Liberty League Championships, with the final at William Smith College. This has been a season for the books so far, and with only 2 Liberty League games under them, and 4 more to go, the Yellowjackets still have a great lead on the rest of the schools, as they are ranked first and second game- and academic-wise. Featuring strong players like junior Grayson Honig (#6), who took 21 game-winning shots so far this season, the Yellowjackets have the top 3 players for number of shots taken, top 2 for shots on goal, and are first in game-winning goals.

The first realization of my own age hit me in the months before I started college. I was helping my dad clean the small office he’d occupied in Rush Rhees longer than I’d been alive. The walls of which boasted childhood drawings that my sister and I had crayoned. Even though I was looking at my distant past, I realized I would soon be starting a new page of my future. Read More

As recently as the early 2010s, it was standard practice for surgeons to provide 30 to 40 or more opioid pills for common, minimally invasive procedures. Most of these pills, however, would remain untouched, left over in the patient’s medical cabinet or kitchen pantries for potential misuse. A team of researchers led by URMC’s Dr. Jacob Moalem set out to reduce these opioid overprescriptions. Read More
