The men?s hockey team took on the University of Buffalo and Monroe Community College on back-to-back nights this past weekend., dropping both games by scores of 2-6 and 0-9, respectively.

Junior captain Cory Rubin led the squad with a goal and an assist in the game against UB. Freshman Rob Kossowsky picked up the second goal of the game.

The team played much of the game shorthanded after losing junior center Mike Evans to a concussion and sophomore center Kevin Birchenough to dehydration. Both are expected to return this weekend. The team has been plagued by injuries all season long and their physical hindrances have taken a toll on the team.

MCC

Senior goalie Gregg Mason lost a hard battle after making 49 saves in the game against MCC.

Lead by junior captains Cory Rubin and Mike Evans, the team is looking to rebuild this season after losing nine seniors from last season.

?I think this year is a rebuilding year, but that does not mean we are expecting to miss the playoffs ? actually it?s the opposite,? Rubin said.

?The players are giving a great effort, younger guys are stepping up and making big plays, and guys who didn?t get a lot of ice time before are playing well now that they are being thrust into big roles,? he added.

Evans echoed Rubin?s sentiment in believing that it is the new players time to step up and lead the team.

The team is ?starting to do a lot of the little things right already,? Evans said.

Future games

The team will be taking on SUNY Morrisville Friday night at home, and will have a rematch against Syracuse University, on Saturday night, after losing to them in a 2-3 loss last semester.

UR is hoping to pull off two wins this weekend to help them earn a playoff berth.
