If you are tired of all the Meliora Weekend festivities and looking for something else to do, then what can be a better way to spend the afternoon listening to free music and eating free food?

The UR Wind Ensemble will be performing a free concert Sunday at 2 p.m. in Upper Strong Auditorium.

The Wind Ensemble is excited for this concert as it is their first with a new conductor.

Cindi Johnston-Turner comes to UR this year from Ontario, Canada. She has been director of music at Parkside High School for the past 12 years, where wind and jazz bands under her leadership have consistently won provincial and national awards for performance excellence. She is presently pursuing doctoral studies at the Eastman School of Music.

This is the first time in the history of the Wind Ensemble that the conductor has been a woman as well as the first time a conductor has been Canadian.

The Wind Ensemble is committed to providing unusual and fun music for their audiences so the repertoire for this evening promises to be exciting and full of surprises. Most pieces will be classical.

And don?t leave when the music stops because all sorts of free refreshments will be served at the end of the show.
