One of UR’s own on-campus bands, Dictators and Fools, is scheduled to perform at the Hive in Wilson Commons at 9 p.m. this evening.

The band is made up of junior Dan Gross on vocals and rhythm guitar, junior Adam Cook on guitar, drummer junior Scott Sturdivant and bassist Noah Lapidus, a member of the class of 2001.

Dictators and Fools became a group in March of 2000, and Gross describes the band’s sound as an attempt to “combine aspects of progressive rock into a modern, melodic sound.”

The band sites classic rock groups like Led Zeppelin and Rush as some of their main musical influences.

“Pious Plethora,” an instrumental piece, was the first original song the group wrote together. The band has written 11 original songs, and is planning on recording an album this spring after finals. They plan on having the CD contain 12 songs.

Cook said that the band is excited about playing at the pub, and that “it could be something really good” and “it could get a really good crowd.”

“We want to play off-campus more, but also want more on-campus support,” Cook said. “We’d like to see more of an emphasis on original music in Rochester.”

As part of its events programming schedule, the Hive plans on having live entertainment perform every week.

If you like what you hear at the Hive tonight, Dictators and Fools will also be performing at the Common Ground Caf on March 29 at 8 p.m. and as part of the Battle of the Bands on April 4. The Battle of the Bands will take place in the Drama House.
