The Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity is bringing back an old tradition this year – a literary competition.

“Alpha Delta Phi was founded as a literary society in 1832,” ADF President and junior Bijan Pajoohi said. “This year especially we’re looking back at our history and traditions and reorganizing, reinvigorating and revitalizing our literary competition.”

The competition is open to all male freshmen and offers a $500 prize for the most outstanding entry.

There are four categories for entries – fiction, nonfiction, poetry and photography. A $150 prize will be awarded to the most outstanding entry in each category.

Submissions, which will be judged by faculty members, are due on Nov. 14. The winners will be announced at a Literary Evening at the ADF house on Dec. 5. The winners’ work will be shared and refreshments will be served.

Written entries are limited to less than 5,000 words, but those less than 1,500 words are preferred. Submissions should not disclose information revealing the entrant’s identity.

Rather, attach a separate cover sheet that indicates the category to which the item will be submitted, the title of the entry and the entrant’s name and contact information.

Photographic entries may be color or black and white and slides are acceptable.
