Rafting in Rochester? Now? Beach ball at UR in the fall?

Yes, it’s possible. This Sunday, at 4:30 p.m., Delta Gamma is holding its annual Anchor Splash at the Speegle-Wilbraham Pool, which is located in the Zornow Center of the Goergen Athletic Center.

This year, the swim meet and spirit contest will boost 19 teams competing in a medley of water relays. Included in the program are synchronized swimming, a beach ball relay and a raft relay. On dry land, there will also be a banner and cheering competition, a raffle and the “Jar Wars” Competition.

Brie Blumenreich, senior and chairperson of this year’s Anchor Splash, said DG is “hoping for a wide variety of spectators and campus groups.”

Those groups that are still interested in taking part without having to swim can be “spirit sponsors” and participate in all the spirit activities at the event.

And it is not simply about water, games and fun. All proceeds go to Guide Dogs of America and Service for Sight. Last year’s Anchor Splash raised approximately $2,000 and DG hopes to hit its target of $3,000 this year.

What makes this year’s event unique and more exciting is that a portion of the proceeds will go towards the sponsorship of a guide dog for a member of the Rochester community.

“It is a great way to show your spirit for charity and cheer on different campus groups as they get wet for a great cause,” Blumenreich said.

Don’t miss your chance to purchase admission and raffle tickets, “spirit boosters” and T-shirts, all available by Flex at Wilson Commons until Friday.

For the most part, these movies are just rehashes — visually bland and feebly attempting to offset their lack of originality with celebrity cameos and nostalgia bait.
