Provost Ralph W. Kuncl named President of University of Redlands

Provost and Executive Vice President of the University of Rochester Ralph W. Kuncl has been named President of the University of Redlands in Redlands, California. Kuncl will remain Provost until August 15, having served in that position since August 2007.

“The challenges our nation faces today require educated and engaged citizens who can make enlightened and responsible choices. This makes our universities more vital and more necessary than ever. So it is with great humility that I accept the stewardship of a university so committed to creating the next generation of leaders,” Kuncl said in an online statement.

As Provost, Kuncl led or directed initiatives in computing, corporate research collaborations, multidisciplinary initiatives, diversity, and online education. Additionally, he was responsible for review of university deans, faculty promotion and tenure decisions, and various initiatives.

Kuncl created and led the annual Celebration of the Book, which brings faculty authors from across the University together in honor of creative authorship in the arts and sciences. Furthermore, Kuncl increased funding for research and interdisciplinary collaboration by millions of dollars, hosted numerous social events, and spearheaded diversity efforts at the University of Rochester.
